Abilities Expo LA Convention Center

Your Possibilities Are Limitless

Abilities Expo is about bringing necessary products and services together under one roof for the community of people with disabilities, their families, caregivers, seniors and healthcare professionals. It's about introducing opportunities that can enrich your life…especially ones that you never knew were out there.

Now in seven cities across the nation, each Abilities Expo offers three days of access to the latest technologies and resources for ALL disabilities, informative workshops on issues that most resonate with the Community and fun activities like adaptive sports, dance, assistive animal demos and more. Come to the Expo! We can't wait to show you the new things you can do!

On Saturday, March 1st, I took my 3 kids to the Abilities Expo. Our mission was to find Djanai a new walker. Last year we had been there and there was a vendor who had the coolest walkers so we went back this year in hopes of seeing them again. This year I also asked Djanai's OT Arameh to go with us so that I could get her feedback while looking at the walkers. We also hoped we would meet a lot of people at the Expo who we could invite to Djanai's Sweet 16 Special Family Prom. And we did...we got to watch the Walk & Roll Foundation Dancers perform and we invited them to come perform at the Prom. We also invited a few families as we saw how excited their kids were being there and our goal was to reach out to as many families as we could as this event was extra special for them. We met a Mermaid but we didn't find a walker for Djanai. She did get to try and ride a bike which was pretty cool. There are lots of cool things at the expo but unfortunately some things just aren't covered by the INSURANCE COMPANIES and this particular bike that Djanais tried which she loved would cost about $4000, which is a pretty big ticket price for a bike.

Hopefully in the future we can find a way to have access to these bikes at more affordable prices or maybe the inClusion ClubHouse will have them available for the kids to at lease play with at the center. It gives the kids a different way to exercise and use their muscles differently. Because of Djanai's limitations her muscles are under developed making certain movements difficult. But I believe just as we go to the gym and workout and build certain muscles or sculpt our bodies the same can be done for our kids with special needs.

If you are in any of these cities you should definitely check out the Abilities Expo it is a free event and well worth the time to see what is available for people of different disabilities. For more information on what the Abilities Expo has to offer visit:www.AbilitiesExpo.com
